Dating a Player?

I'm dating a guy who has a rep as a player. But he spends all his free time with me since we started dating and is very attentive and everything, the way a non-player would be. This has all the signs of a relationship but I'm being cautious because I'm scared to get any deeper with it. I don't want to get hurt if he really is just playing me. Can't stop thinking of that line "Players only love you when they're playing." Is is possible for people to change and get serious about someone who makes them want to change? I just don't want to be deluded.
