Playing the sax with TMJ?

I was wondering if there's anyone out there who plays the saxophone and has TMJ? As a TMJ sufferer and keen tenor sax player, I would really like to know what your experiences have been - how you've coped with the pain when playing, etc. I would also like to know if there is a mouth splint or something similar that I could wear while playing to ease pain and minimise damage and stress to the joint?
