Why do i have to pay a couple of pound more when my son goes up a size in clothes?

after hearing about how women no longer pay a couple of quid extra for bigger bra sizes how come when my son goes up a size in trousers i still have to pay a couple of quid more surely the same principle applys? does anyone agree or is it just me.
