Husband with large sole debts, worried Bailiffs will come calling?
My husband, who is no longer living in the marital home but with his girlfriend, has large sole debts that he cannot repay (built up during the marriage) although he is working two jobs (one full-time). I am worried that if the Bailiffs turn up on my doorstep (the marital home), they will insist on coming in and will claim all of my possessions to pay off my husband's debts. This to me is exceptionally unfair if they are legally allowed to do it as the debts are my husbands, nothing to do with me. The only debt we currently share (we are selling the house) is the mortgage and that's it. Can the Bailiffs legally take my property and do I have to prove ownership despite the fact he doesn't live with me any more (and the Council have been informed so he is not 'legally' here). Please help. I'm in the UK if that helps!
